Project Title
Solving Water Inaccessibility with Social Capital
Description
My capstone investigates the ways in which widespread water inaccessibility has been addressed by the force of social capital, using the case study of Lyari Town, Karachi. Infrastructural inadequacies are overcome when people act as alternative infrastructural forces to uphold the systems of service provision, specifically that of water. Water procurement and delivery in Lyari is managed by local stakeholders who build the social fabric of the community. The cooperation between various social networks is rooted in trust, devotion, and service toward fellow community members. Here, social capital not only acts as an adhesive force in society but also functions as a propeller for economic development.
